The CBS television network has decided to postpone the airing of a reality show showcasing the work done by the District Attorney and prosecutors in the Brooklyn DA’s Office.

The show, titled “Brooklyn DA,” was scheduled to premier on May 21. The new proposed air date is May 28.

In this six-part series, with each episode an hour in length, “Brooklyn D.A.” will look at the Brooklyn District Attorney Charles J. Hynes as he prepares for a contested re-election race as well as at the work of his office in prosecuting some high-profile cases.  The show has received severe criticism from Hynes’ primary opponents.

Brooklyn DA candidate Ken Thompson called Hynes’ decision to participate in the show “reckless.”

“It is simply reckless for District Attorney Hynes to share sensitive information about ongoing cases and investigations with a film crew for self-promotion — information that leaked before the show even aired and could easily lead to more failed prosecutions and overturned cases,” Thompson said.

Another candidate for Brooklyn DA, Abe George, sent CBS a “cease and desist” letter asking that the show not be broadcast “during the critical final months of an intensely contested campaign.”  He said that a May airing of the show would appear to be a de facto infomercial for Hynes, thus violating campaign laws.

In other words, George felt that the airing of the show would grant undue promotion to Hynes and appear as a paid contribution, by CBS, to Hynes’ campaign.

Hynes’ campaign spokesperson, George Arzt, dismissed George’s assertions.

CBS did not mention the reason for the show’s delay
