Kids in Brooklyn will be able to enjoy free lessons in tennis, golf and other sports this summer, thanks to the City Parks Foundation, which is offering instructional programs in recreation areas all over the borough.

July 1 marks the start of City the foundation’s 2014 Summer Sports Program for children. Throughout the summer, the foundation provides more than 13,000 kids across the city with free tennis, golf, and track and field instruction including free use of equipment in over 60 locations.

The Brooklyn parks hosting the sports programs include: Bensonhurst Park, Betsy Head Playground, Fort Greene Park, Herbert Von King Park, Highland Park, Jackie Robinson Playground, Kaiser Park, Kelly Playground, Leif Ericson Park, Lincoln Terrace, Marine Park, McCarren Park, McKinley Park and Prospect Park.

Chase is the presenting sponsor of the foundation’s tennis program, called CityParks Tennis. LACOSTE the official apparel sponsor. CityParks Tennis provides free tennis lessons to children, ages six to 16.  The program promotes physical fitness while building self-confidence and is designed to make the sport of tennis freely available to those who want to learn the game in a fun, relaxed atmosphere, according to foundation officials.

CityParks Tennis runs through Aug. 8 and concludes with a tournament for beginners held at the Central Park Tennis Center. The JP Morgan Chase Aces Tournament, for players at the intermediate level, will be held at Flushing Meadows Tennis Center in mid-August.

CityParks Golf, presented by René Lacoste Foundation, offers golf lessons for kids ages six to 16. The program seeks to make the sport of golf accessible to kids of all skill levels. The emphasis of the program is not only on learning the basics of the sport, but also on developing self-esteem, discipline and sportsmanship.

The program gives kids a chance to improve their skills and ultimately try out for the CityParks Intermediate Program and Junior Golf Academy – specialized programs for young golfers available at the CityParks Junior Golf Center, a facility located within the Dyker Beach Golf Course in Dyker Heights.

CityParks Golf will be held in two sessions, running from July 1 through July 25 and from July 28 through Aug. 22. Online registration is now available. Visit www.cityparksfoundation.org/sports/register/ to register.

CityParks Track & Field presented by EmblemHealth gives kids, ages five to 16, the chance to learn the basics of the sport, from hurdles and relay races, to long jump, shot put and javelin throw.  All participating youngsters will have the opportunity to display the basic skills learned at the end of the season at an organized track meet held at Icahn Stadium, the sports complex on Randall’s Island on Aug. 13.
