Residents of Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, and Bensonhurst are being notified that the city’s Department of Health will be spraying these neighborhoods to prevent the spread of West Nile Virus.

The spraying, which the Dept. of Health calls “aerial larviciding,” will take place in the following zip codes: 11209, 11214, and 11228 between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

This will mark the second time in two months that spraying has been conducted in Dyker Heights, according to the blog www.bensonhurstbean.com. The blog reported that mosquitoes carrying West Nile Virus were discovered in Dyker Park.

The Dept. of Health urges residents with asthma or other respiratory conditions to stay inside during spraying. Residents are also being encouraged to remove children’s toys, outdoor equipment, and clothes from outdoor areas.

If residents are exposed to the pesticides, they should wash their skin and clothing, officials said.
