SHEEPSHEAD BAY — Police have arrested the driver of a speeding BMW that slammed head-on into a minivan on Ocean Parkway, killing the minivan's driver.
The Daily News reported this morning that police believe the BMW was moving at 90 miles per hour when its driver lost control, struck the center divider and crossed over it into oncoming traffic. The speed limit on Ocean Parkway is 30 MPH.
The driver of the van, 23-year-old Jamal Iqual, a Pakistani immigrant and aspiring medical student, was pronounced dead at Coney Island Hospital.
Police say the driver of the BMW, 26-year-old Beka Skhirtladze, was arrested on vehicular manslaughter and other charges. It wasn't clear if he had a lawyer, the Associated Press reported. He and his passenger were both hospitalized in stable condition.
