Court of Appeals decisions come this week
The Court of Appeals in Albany is New York state’s highest court. It is composed of a chief judge, currently Hon. Jonathan Lippman, and six associate judges, each appointed to a 14-year term. One of the associated judges is Brooklyn-born Hon. Theodore T. Jones, the former Kings County Supreme Court administrative judge. New York’s highest appellate court was established to articulate statewide principles of law in the context of deciding particular lawsuits. The court thus generally focuses on broad issues of law as distinguished from individual factual disputes. There is no jurisdictional limitation based upon the amount of money at stake in a case or the status or rank of the parties. The following is the remaining Court of Appeals:
June 21-22 — Decision days
Aug. 22-23 — Election cases
Sept. 4-7 & 11-13 — Court sessions
Sept. 14 — Court conferences
Oct. 9-11 — Court sessions
