Brooklyn District Attorney-elect Ken Thompson on Monday announced that Mark Feldman, a respected lawyer with public and private sector experience, will serve as his chief assistant. The chief assistant is the second-in-command to the district attorney, and is in charge of managing the office on a daily basis as well as directing specialized task forces and divisions.

Feldman most recently served as deputy inspector general for the MTA, where he was responsible for investigations into issues of employee misconduct, vendor fraud and allegations of nepotism. He was previously the head of the Organized Crime and Racketeering Section at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York from 1995-2006, where he supervised the prosecution of several high-profile Mafia-related murder cases, including the leadership of all five “families” operating in New York. In addition, Feldman served for years as a top lawyer in the Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens District Attorney’s offices.

“Mark Feldman is an outstanding lawyer and someone whose integrity is beyond reproach. Whether it’s prosecuting organized crime rings or investigating fraud, he has proved himself to be one of the best prosecutors in New York. I am thrilled to have him serve as our chief assistant, and I have no doubt he will make Brooklyn proud,” said District Attorney-elect Thompson.

“I am honored to serve as chief assistant to District Attorney Thompson. He is a dedicated public servant and we share the goal of restoring trust in the District Attorney’s Office, promoting equal justice, and keeping the people of Brooklyn safe,” said Feldman.

Thompson won the general election in November with 75 percent of the vote, becoming the first person to defeat an incumbent district attorney in Brooklyn since 1912 and the first African-American ever elected as Brooklyn district attorney.
