Get your chopsticks ready, folks: The Ninth Annual Dumpling Eating Contest is taking place on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Smorgasburg food festival in Williamsburg.

The competition looks to be stiff: last year the men’s winner covered himself in glory by downing 69 dumplings in two minutes.

The first place winner in each of the men’s and women’s division will receive $1,000. In addition, the East River Ferry — the official transportation sponsor for the event — will match the highest number of dumplings eaten in ferry tickets. Each winner will receive the combined number, adding both the highest men’s and highest women’s scores.

Smorgasburg takes place on the waterfront at 27 North 6th St., an East River Ferry stop. All the proceeds from the event benefit Food Book for New York City. According to sponsor Chef One Corporation, last year, $44,200 was raised for the Food Bank, which provided 230,000 meals to assist the 1.4 million people in New York.
