BAY RIDGE — Bagel Villa offers a wide selection of the revered, old-fashioned, hand-rolled “New York City” bagels, made in-house, but also provides a plethora of other delicious food. Savor the Bagel Villa experience by eating in, taking an order to go, or even placing an order for local delivery (free with a $10 minimum).

Opened by a local family as the result of the entrepreneurial brainstorm of their son Joe, who wanted to open a bagel shop while he was still enrolled in a local college, the business has become a great success. Operating for just four years, Bagel Villa is already a favorite spot for many on Fifth Avenue to enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner.

The staff at Bagel Villa is hospitable and kind. There is an easy rapport between the folks behind the counter and their customers, with jokes and greetings volleying back and forth between orders. An efficient operation, particularly during busy times of the day, food is prepared to order and delivered with great speed, without sacrificing any flavor.

The menu items are far too plentiful to list here. Customer favorites include: the Greek and Italian paninis, the honey bee and Greco wraps, the everything bagel and the whole-wheat everything bagel, and the sesame whole-wheat bagel. Also known for its soup, Bagel Villa’s minestrone and lentil are famed for their fresh, delicate and rich flavors. Griddle and bakery favorites, such as pancakes, French bread, muffins, croissants and pastries, are also available.

Bagels come with all sorts of options and toppings, from the traditional butter and cream cheese to the more unconventional chocolate/hazelnut spread and peanut butter. The list of options for toppings is impressive, but you can get a cold or hot sandwich on a bagel too.

According to one staff person, many ingredients are imported directly from the Mediterranean, with Greece and Italy providing the special flavors that make Bagel Villa’s food so delicious.

A full selection of drinks is on hand, from the everyday options of sodas, juices and mineral waters to highly specialized and unique offerings like Greek Frappe. This frozen iced coffee drink is delightfully refreshing and can be made with or without sugar or an artificial sweetener.

Bagel Villa also offers catering for special events. Heroes of 3 and 6 feet, trays of salads, hot foods, Greek delicacies, and special bagel wheels can be made to order.

Bagel Villa is located at 7221 Fifth Ave. For more information, call (718) 745-1175, fax (718) 745-1170, or email [email protected]. The business is open seven days a week: Monday through Saturday, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.
