Fine jeweler Onofrio D. Oro has relocated from its longtime 13th Avenue location to the heart of Bay Ridge with a prime spot on Fifth Avenue.

Owner Onofrio Demattia is a native Brooklynite who began his career in the jewelry business with a course at New Utrecht High School. His initial course of inspiration was refined through his success at a top-line design school and ensuing world travels. Committed to the neighborhood, Onofrio blends local desires and taste with world-class sophistication and elegance.

Onofrio designs one-of-a-kind pieces. He works from custom-made wax molds for his metals and crafts unique settings for precious and semi-precious stones. One of the most stunning works on display in his shop is a 187-carat aquamarine. Its gorgeous, greenish-blue tones can be absolutely mesmerizing. Also on display are stunning collections of unique stones with many examples of opal, topaz, tourmaline and tanzanite.

Onofrio also works with unusual fossils and resins to bring out the most lustrous of nature’s work. One particular fossil seems especially sparkling; its green and maroon tones seem to be as bright as light, while the gold that surrounds it highlights the piece even further.

This store offers everything from gifts in the $25 range to pieces worth thousands of dollars. It has something unique and eye-catching at every possible price point, from works in sterling silver and gold to platinum. Even if the size of the piece is modest in proportion, the design quality will identify it as one of Onofrio’s works. His chains are sometimes unusual in their shapes, yet are always entirely fitting to the scale of the gems.

While the store maintains a wide variety, from which customers can choose new pieces, Onofrio also refashions and redesigns works that customers bring into him, especially cherished family mementos that are handed down and might need an updated setting. He will even melt down and recast the metal from an original piece, so it truly retains its original sentimental value.

The store also has locations on the three Queens – the Queen Mary, the Queen Elizabeth, and the Queen Victoria cruise ships. These elegant vessels are suitable for such gorgeous works.

As Onofrio explains with wit and a smile, “If we are good enough for three Queens, we are good enough for you.”
