Flood watch issued for Brooklyn and vicinity through Friday evening

The National Weather Service issued a flood watch through Friday evening for Brooklyn, Manhattan, the Bronx and Queens as a powerful storm continued along a path taking it from the Ohio Valley to south and east of Long Island.

This system is expected to produce high winds and heavy rain, with rainfall totals ranging from 2 to 3 inches, and in some areas up to 4 inches.

The watch is in effect through Friday evening.

Early Thursday morning, winds estimated to have reached 70-80 mph blew through some areas south of Chicago from the same weather pattern. The storm briefly suspended competition at the U.S. Open at near Philadelphia Thursday morning.
