Following their first loss of the season to Bishop Kearney, the Bonnies (3-1) returned home to host the Lady Eagles of St. Edmund Prep. As expected, the game proved to be a close contest and the Lady Eagles took a 27-23 lead at the half. The Bonnies missed several free throws and were out-rebounded in the first half, prompting Fontbonne Head Coach Stephen Oliver to give his team a reality check at halftime.

Evidently the tactic inspired the team; the Bonnies went on an 11-2 run in the third quarter and the defense tightened considerably. Cindy Henderson hit several buckets on her way to scoring a game-high 15 points.

“She played inspired ball, getting key steals and converting them into baskets,” Oliver remarked on Henderson’s performance.

Going into the fourth quarter with a 38-25 lead, the Bonnies scored 16 more points as Kate Oliver and Kris Sullivan scored eight apiece, and Deirdre Lavelle scored a total of seven points to pace Fontbonne to a 12-point win.

After the game, Coach Oliver was informed that his daughter Kate had been selected as one of 16 players across the city named a top “Non AA” player from among New York City’s Catholic, private and public school A and B divisions by the New York Post.
“I’m proud of her selection,” Coach Oliver said. “Kate is on the list with some good company.”
