Fontbonne wins volleyball championship

Call them champs! A Bay Ridge Catholic high school is celebrating a volleyball championship.

Fontbonne Hall Academy’s junior varsity volleyball team defeated the team from Archbishop Molloy High School in the finals of the Division I Diocesan championships held at Christ the King High School in Queens on Nov. 4.

The win capped off an undefeated season for Fontbonne. They beat Archbishop Molloy 25-22 and 25-21 to capture the title. The girls celebrated with Coach Linda Strong and Assistant Coach Tommy Ma.

The school’s varsity volleyball team also made it to the finals but was ultimately defeated by Saint Francis Prep.

Fontbonne, located on Shore Road and 99th Street, has a rich sports tradition, fielding teams in volleyball, tennis, swimming, softball and basketball.
