Fort Greene will soon be getting a boutique hotel, according to a report this morning from The Local.

Gabriela Tubella purchased the deteriorating four-story building that once stood on the planned site of the hotel, at the corner of Lafayette Avenue and Saint Felix Street across  from the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), in 2007 for $3.7 million.

She hoped to entice a hotel developer by bundling the property with an adjoining lot and air rights, but she failed to find a buyer after two price cuts from the original ask of $5.6 million. So she took the property off the market and matters into her own hands.

Tubella decided to build a 9-story, 56-room hotel herself. It will be called Hotel Felix and the first of its two phases of construction is scheduled to conclude with the completion of a ground-floor restaurant, which Tubella hopes to open before the year is out.
