The City Point project in Downtown Brooklyn is facing opposition from labor unions and officials who charge that the developers are hiring non-union contractors who pay their workers unfair wages and benefits, City and State reports.
A portion of the large-scale retail and office complex on Flatbush Avenue Extension, which includes the new ground-floor Armani Exchange on the Fulton Mall, is being financed with public money, including $20 million in Recovery Zone Facility Bonds from the 2009 stimulus package.
“I’m hopeful that Acadia will conclude that the right thing to do is to ensure that everyone benefits from this project,” said Councilman Jumaane Williams.
As the Eagle reported in May, a Century 21 department store will anchor the 1.3-million-square-foot mixed-use building that will comprise Phase II of the multi-building development.
