ON THIS DAY in 1901, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “B. F. Stephens Accuses Three Brooklyn Pastors.”  The article references a phone call from Stephens who accused three of Brooklyn’s Presbyterian ministers with untruthfulness.
The cablegram read: “To the Daily Eagle, Brooklyn, N.Y.: The loss of Immanuel Church property to Presbyterianism is because Brooklyn Presbytery refused to try to Rev. George L. MacClelland for untruthfulness, lying and wrecking Immanuel Church, and the secret maneuvering of the Rev. Drs. Foote, Carson and Burrell.
