SUNSET PARK — John Mimozo, who graduated from Saint Agatha School many years ago, returned to his alma mater on Jan. 31. Mimozo had a special reason for his visit.

“My granddaughters invited me,” he said proudly.

Mimozo came back to the school at the invitation of his granddaughters, Angela and Lauren Vega, who are St. Agatha students and who wanted to share “Grandparents Day” with him.Grandmother Lucy Balgobin joins her granddaughters, Julissa Balgobin (top) and Isabella Balgobin (right).

St. Agatha School, at 738 46th St., celebrated Catholic Schools Week by hosting a variety of activities for students and their families, including “Grandparents Day.”

Hundreds of grandparents were treated to breakfast in the school gym, where they shared tables with their beloved grandchildren, who proudly introduced them to Principal Alice Rios and the Rev. Peter Bai, a priest at St. Agatha Church.

The grandparents, who were treated like royalty, also enjoyed a performance by the school chorus.

“It’s really so nice!” said Lucy Balgobin, who came to spend time with her two granddaughters, Julissa and Isabella. The St. Agatha School Chorus performs for the guests of honor during “Grandparents Day.”
