President Barack Obama’s legacy has been tarnished due to the triple threat of scandals involving Benghazi, the Internal Revenue Service and the seizure of Associated Press reporters’ phone records by the US Department of Justice, according to the lone Republican in the New York City congressional delegation.

US Rep. Michael Grimm (R-C-Bay Ridge-Staten Island) said the president’s actions have divided the country.

“President Obama’s legacy is going to be one tarnished by scandal after scandal.  This president had an opportunity to unite our country and move it forward better and stronger. Instead, he brought Chicago-style politics to the White House and divided us as a nation,” Grimm said in a statement issued on May 15.

“Today this president continues to blame Republicans for politicizing Benghazi, when it is his very own administration that covered up the facts. He was slow to react to the IRS targeting conservative Tea Party groups, and today he denies knowledge of the Justice Department seizing the phone records of AP reporters. The president claims to be in the dark on one event after another. What are they doing over there? Who’s accountable if it’s not the commander in chief?” Grimm said.

Grimm spoke out in the wake of the triple threat of scandals currently dogging the Obama Administration. The murder of Christopher Stevens, the US ambassador to Libya, and three other Americans on Sept. 11 in Benghazi, is the subject of heated congressional hearings. On Friday, it was learned that the IRS had been deliberately targeting Tea Party groups and other Conservative-leaning organizations by over-scrutinizing the groups’ applications for tax exempt status for more than two years. And it was also made public that the Dept. of Justice had secretly seized the phone records of at least 20 reporters and editors of the Association Press as part of an investigation into a government leak in a foiled terror plot.

Grimm isn’t the only Republican speaking out on the various scandals. The Republican Party appears poised to make political hay out of Obama’s troubles. The Hill, a newspaper covering Washington, reported on May 15 that National Republican Congressional Committee has already launched a series of online ads targeting seven Democratic House members, seeking to tie them to the IRS mess.

But Grimm is aiming his firepower strictly at the White House, rather than at Democrats in congress.

“Instead of a legacy of ‘hope and change,’ President Obama will be known for bringing Chicago-style politics to the White House. The most ‘transparent administration in history’ is actually the most secretive, deceptive, and divisive we’ve seen in modern times.  This administration has misled the American people one too many times, and it’s time it is held accountable,” he said.
