New York State Supreme Court Justice Arthur Schack will be the guest speaker at a meeting of the Dyker Heights Civic Association on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 8 p.m., at Saint Phillip’s Episcopal Church Hall, at 1072 80th St.

Schack will also administer the oath of office to the Civic Association President Fran Vella-Marrone and the organization’s officers at the meeting.

In his presentation, Schack is expected to discuss how the court system works. “We are very pleased that Justice Schack will be with us,” Vella-Marrone.

Schack, a Bay Ridge resident, has become well known in the legal world for his strong stand on the issue of home foreclosures. The New York Times reported in 2009 that Schack protects the rights of homeowners by insisting that banks follow the letter of the law when seeking foreclosure proceedings.
