Gov. Andrew Cuomo has announced the appointment of the Hon. Sylvia Hinds-Radix to the Appellate Division, Second Department.
Justice Hinds-Radix is currently the administrative judge for Civil Matters in Kings County and president of the Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association.
"I am proud to appoint such an accomplished and diverse group of jurists to the Appellate Division," Cuomo said in a statement. "The experience and dedication of this group will be a tremendous addition to the courts and our justice system." Justice Hinds-Radix was one of four jurists appointed to the Appellate Division this month.
Beginning her career on the bench in 2002, Justice Hinds-Radix “has repeatedly demonstrated a strong commitment to the principles of fairness and justice and the advancement of the members of our diverse community” said R. Nadine Fontaine, president of the Metropolitan Black Bar Association.
“Justice Hinds-Radix's record of achievement shows that she possesses all of the attributes necessary to succeed in this position and her reputation is widely respected by us all. We are certain that she will bring to the bench a wealth of experience as a committed and active jurist and legal practitioner,” continued Fontaine.
Justice Hinds-Radix will begin her new role as an Appellate Division judge on Nov. 1, 2012.
