On Tuesday, April 24, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz paid a visit to I.S. 318 in Williamsburg to once again congratulate the school’s chess team, which became the first middle school team ever to win the United States Chess Federation’s national high school championship, held in Minneapolis.

The renowned middle school team beat the best high school chess players in the country, including students at Stuyvesant High School. The I.S. 318 team is the subject of the chess documentary, “Brooklyn Castle.”
