When the Kings county Inn of Court held their annual party at the Pacifica Restaurant on Eighth Ave. in Sunset Park, the real star of the delicious event, arranged by Inn Executive director Jeff Feldman, was not a lawyer or a judge. It was Marie Lattanzi, the longtime Inn administrator. She served as secretary to Justice Gerard Rosenberg prior to his retirement and was an inspirational force within the Nathan R. Sobel chapter.

For the past few months, the elegant Marie has been sidelined with serious back injuries and scheduled for surgery.

Most recently, as she told us in some detail Tuesday night, her Belle Harbor home was devastated in Hurricane Sandy. Marie may be young, but she’s of the old school when it comes to toughness, and she calmly told our table that all of her first floor, along with clothes, furniture, appliances and kitchenware, were “ruined, all gone.” Two cars in her garage were totaled.

Such losses are never really covered in these sad situations, and we sat stunned as she went down the list of damages as well as those wreaked on the home of her daughter.
Later, Inn President Dittenhoefer singled her out for a special award in recognition of her service and extraordinary courage.

She and husband Marty have our prayers and support as she takes on her next challenge and look forward to her complete recovery.
