A human-sized baguette and two slices of bread stand tall on the DUMBO waterfront in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Not far from the bread stands a somber monument to disappearing frogs – and a bit south of that squats a humorous huddle of wooden giants attached at the butt, from the waist down only.

For the 30th year in a row, the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC) has staked its claim on DUMBO with a sculpture exhibition in the northernmost section of the park, close to the Main Street playground. The show, with 14 pieces, runs through Saturday, September 15, so consider this a last chance to take it in.

As Brooklyn Bridge Park gets ever larger, with its rough edges polished, the BWAC show stands as a reminder of DUMBO’s renegade artist past, when artwork mysteriously appeared alongside abandoned buildings and under bushes in the park, like gnomes in a garden.

To celebrate the 30-year anniversary, BWAC is staging an exhibition at East River State Park in Williamsburg as well. (The Williamsburg show features 16 pieces.) For this year’s theme, Perpetual Energy, BWAC says curators were looking at work that “taps into the free energy that surrounds us, like the sun, wind and the current of the East River.”
