DAYTON, Ohio — A first-year coach will lead LIU Brooklyn against James Madison in the First Four.

Jack Perri will lead LIU (20-13) against the Dukes (20-14) in a battle of No. 16 seeds on Wednesday at the University of Dayton Arena. The winner gets Big Ten regular-season champion Indiana, the top seed in the East, also in Dayton on Friday.

Perri’s Blackbirds became the first team to win the Northeast Conference tournament three years in a row, thanks to C.J. Garner’s career-high 31 points in a 91-70 win over Mount St. Mary’s.

James Madison, coached by Matt Brady, will be making its first NCAA trip since winning the Colonial Athletic Association tournament crown in 1994. The Dukes are led by 25-year-old guard A.J. Davis, averaging 20.5 points over the last 10 games.
