Lutheran HealthCare To Ring In Year of the Dragon With Festivities

SUNSET PARK — Today at noon, Lutheran HealthCare, 150 55th St., will be ringing in the Chinese New Year in style.

Festivities will include the traditional lion dance performed by members of the Brooklyn Chinese-American Association (BCA), as well as performances by preschoolers from BCA’s daycare program. Traditional oranges and red envelopes representing good luck and prosperity will be distributed as well.

After the performances, traditional Chinese food will be served. The Visiting Nurse Service of New York will be present at the celebration as well and will be handing out informational materials and will raffle off a gift basket for attendees of the event.

The celebration will also feature a special dedication of an origami red-envelope dragon statue, created by Phat Luong and his wife, Lee-How Ngo, who reside at Lutheran’s Sunset Gardens residence. After the dedication, the piece of artwork will be transported to Lutheran Medical Center’s Chinese inpatient unit. The couple have previously donated handmade artwork to Lutheran’s Brooklyn-Chinese Family Health Center.

The event will be emceed by Rick Chou, D.O., president of the hospital’s medical and dental staff.
