Lutheran Medical Center has a new chief of cardiology. Dr. George Fernaine, a cardiologist who has been an attending doctor at the Sunset Park hospital since 2007, has been tapped to become head of the Cardiology Department.

Fernaine officially started his new post on July 1.

He succeeds Dr. Nagi Bustros, who had served as Lutheran Medical Center’s cardiology chief since 1980. Bustros was instrumental in building a solid foundation for the significant growth and expansion of cardiology services at Lutheran, particularly over the past 10 years, according to hospital officials.
