Washington Park (formerly J.J. Byrne Park) was central to the Battle of Brooklyn in 1776. Last Friday, the Revolutionary War's spirit was in play, with Gen. Israel Putnam — channeled by Borough President Marty Markowitz — returning to the scene, this time to celebrate a peaceful event — a ribbon-cutting marking completion of the third phase of the park's renovation.
