Middle School Chess Team Takes National High School Title
The powerhouse chess team at I.S. 318 Eugenia Maria de Hostos in Williamsburg – a middle school with students in grades 6 to 8 — won the National High School Championships this past Sunday.
The renowned middle school team beat the best high school chess players in the country, including students at Stuyvesant High School. The I.S. 318 team is the subject of the chess documentary, “Brooklyn Castle.”
I.S. 318 has won at least 26 national chess titles — more than any other junior high in the country. I.S. 318 is a Title I school.
