Modern Spaces, Sweetleaf To Open Joint Real Estate Office/Coffeehouse in Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG — Long Island City-based real estate brokerage Modern Spaces and coffeehouse Sweetleaf have joined forces to open a first-of-its-kind shop in Williamsburg.

The shop is at 135 Kent Ave. at North 6th Street directly across from the new condominium The Edge on the Williamsburg waterfront.

This is the first Brooklyn location for both Modern Spaces and Sweetleaf. Sweetleaf will occupy 1,100 square feet in the 4,100-square-foot corner location  while Modern Spaces will occupy the remaining 3,000. They will be in two distinctive styles but will create a harmonious look, according to Eric Benaim, CEO and president of Modern Spaces.

“The outpost has been created with environmentally-friendly components in mind, utilizing everything from reclaimed wood to salvaged materials, all purchased in Brooklyn,” he said, adding, “The space is designed to convey an industrial/vintage, old Brooklyn look and feel."

The Modern Spaces area will have a large 12-foot by 32-foot Brooklyn-inspired mural created by Williamsburg artist Skewville, as well as communal tables made of reclaimed wood and metal which can seat up to 45 agents. The new establishment will also have a concierge, a conference room and five offices.

“Long Island City has been completely captivated by Sweetleaf and the care and craft they put into their coffee. So much harmony exists between Modern Spaces’ and Sweetleaf’s business philosophies that it feels like a natural fit for both companies to come together and create something really special for the Williamsburg community,” said Benaim. “We both started our businesses in Long Island City and when we decided to create this partnership and began exploring neighborhoods, we were looking for a creative community where we can establish some of the same principles and creative energy — Williamsburg felt like the right place.”

Added Rich Nieto, co-owner of Sweetleaf, “I’ve long felt that Williamsburg is one of the coolest neighborhoods in NYC. Locals really support the better businesses there and that’s why you see such an awesome variety of great places to go. We’re chomping at the bit to be a part of it all and unveil the new space and let Williamsburg experience Sweetleaf.”

A grand opening is scheduled for April.
