New York City Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña arrives for her first day of work at Department of Education headquarters at Tweed Courthouse on a blustery Thursday morning.

With her is Ursulina Ramirez, her Chief of Staff.

Fariña was chosen by Mayor Bill de Blasio to head the country’s largest school system. She has more than 40 years experience in education, many of them in Brooklyn.
