New York City's sanitation department has issued a "snow alert" starting at 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Personnel are getting equipment and supplies ready.
Sanitation is coordinating snow clearing protocol with the Office of Emergency Management and the transportation department.
It's continuing to monitor the forecast.
The National Weather Service is predicting around 1 to 3 inches of snow Tuesday in New York City and its suburbs to the east and north.

New Yorkers are also encouraged to sign up for the Notify NYC system. It sends information through phone calls, text messages and email alerts.
