The Park Slope Jewish Center will be hosting Selichot (a program of penitential prayers said prior to Rosh Hashanah) this Saturday, Sept. 8, for a number of other Brownstone Brooklyn congregations, including, as of press time, Congregation Beth Elohim and Congregation Kolot Cheyeinu.

The gathering will be held in the Park Slope Jewish Center’s newly renovated Lower Sanctuary. Leading Selichot will be many Park Slope rabbis and cantors.

Singer/songwriter and scholar Galeet Dardashti and her band will give a performance of “Monajat,” a Persian word that means “intimate dialogue with the divine,” following Selichot.

The Park Slope Jewish Center (Conservative) and Congregation B’nai Jacob (Modern Orthodox) participated in another joint celebration on Sept. 1, 1999 — to transfer the synagogue buiding.

That event, which included a procession and dancing with the Torah along Eighth Avenue, marked the official transfer of the synagogue building at Eight Avenue and 14th Street to the Park Slope Jewish Center and the departure of Congregation B’nai Jacob to a building on Ninth Street.
