Plymouth Church member Jacque Jones was named President-Elect of The Hymn Society at the musical organization’s conference this summer in Winnipeg, Canada.

Jacque Jones is actively involved with The Hymn Society, an organization devoted to the study and development of hymnody. Since joining in 2003, she also served as its treasurer since 2008. She will serve as the president-elect for two years and then as the president for two years, as part of The Hymn Society’s mentoring system for new officers.

Jacque is an accomplished, published writer of hymn texts. Samples of her poetry can be found in the Plymouth hymnal, Hymns of Truth and Light. Her hymn, “Creator of the Intertwined,” was the winner of the 2004 Macalester Plymouth United Church Hymn Contest.

Jacque will also make a presentation at Grace Church’s Hymn Sings, a popular Brooklyn Heights tradition that welcomes it singing enthusiasts from other congregations in the neighborhood. She and fellow Plymouth singer Lois Rosebrooks (also recently featured in this column) will speak on Aug. 28 and Aug. 21 (the prior week) respectively.

Paul Richard Olson, organist and choirmaster at Grace Church, hosts the Hymn Sings on Tuesdays in August (7, 14, 21 and 28) in the air-conditioned Anne McKittrick Room. The church entrance is at 254 Hicks St.
