The Second Annual Semper Fi Fund Bay Ridge 5K, which took place on Sunday, June 10, was a huge success, according to organizers, who said that approximately 150 runners participated. The event raised $6,650 for injured Marines, it was reported. A highlight of the race was the attendance of Maj. Gen. USMC John Toolan, brother of event organizer Catherine Toolan Gearity.
The course led runners from the starting point at John Paul Jones Park (Fourth Avenue and 101st Street) along the Shore Road Promenade to the 69th Street Pier and back to the park for a patriotic post-race ceremony.
The first place winner in the Men’s Division was Alejandro Arizo, who finished in a time of 16:29. Angel Confesor came in second at 16:50 and Jordan Berka finished third at 17:42.
Lisa Fajardo came in first for the women with a time of 22:17. The second place finisher was Berenice Santiago at 22:35 and Emily Anderson finished third with a time of 23:27.
