Vincent Frisani single-handedly turned a school auditorium into an opera house with a stirring rendition of “Nessun Dorma” to win the Sixth Annual Senior Idol talent contest.

With a powerful voice, Frisani performed the selection from Puccini’s opera “Turandot” to wild applause from the audience.

Frisani beat out 10 other contestants in the competition, which took place Oct. 13 at Xaverian High School in Bay Ridge.

Under the rules of the contest, all of the finalists were age 50 or over.

In addition to Frisani, the other contestants performing in the final were: David Vann, Audret Melikian, Hector Gonzales, Victoria Keller, Andrew Gandolfo, Irene Dobronski, Jennifer Guido, Sherry Kayser, Anthony D’Augusta, and Gagz Danzo.

The program also featured a performance by 2011 Senior Idol winner Eddie Gentile. Radio legend Joe Franklin was the Master of Ceremonies, and a panel of judges, including radio personality Jim Kerr, helped choose the winner. Frisani was selected as the night’s big winner by virtue of votes from the judges and the audience.

The proceeds from the event will be donated to the Xaverian High School Music Scholarship Fund and to purchase new instruments to support the Xaverian High School music program, according to state Sen. Marty Golden-R-Bay Ridge), the contest sponsor.
