City Parks Foundation has announced the 2014 launch of SummerStage Kids, New York City’s unique, interactive family festival presenting more than 90 performing arts events at 30 locations citywide. This free festival will run from June 21 to August 19 in Brooklyn, exposing audiences to the local, national and international world of arts and culture, through a diverse collection of engaging artists unparalleled by any other festival of its kind in New York City.

“SummerStage Kids is a unique performing arts festival that tailors its offerings specifically to an all-ages audience.  Communities have the opportunity to immerse themselves in an imaginative world filled with music, dance, circus and performances that is thoughtfully curated to appeal to the broadest audience possible,” said Monique Martin, Director of Family Programming for City Parks Foundation.

The 2014 season marks the second year of SummerStage Kids' focus on contemporary circus. Families will get the chance to see the best circus companies from North America and around the globe make their mark in New York City as a part of the “International Contemporary Circus Festival.” With shows all season long during the day, two dates in Brooklyn Bridge Park and three consecutive evenings in Harlem's Marcus Garvey Park, this mini-festival will have audiences in awe.

Special highlights this season include SummerStage Kids' premiere of its first ever circus commissioned work, "Circles," a distinctive piece inspired by the celebrated poet Rumi and his poem, "Zero Circle" that explores the nature of evolving relationships and  is being created in part with the innovative Loki Circus Theater company and famed beat box and Hip-Hop artist, Akim Funk Buddha.

SummerStage Kids also features family music for a wide range of tastes including Soul, Folk, Jazz and Hip-Hop. In addition, families will enjoy storytellers, dance companies, juggling, puppetry and a host of other thrilling activities throughout the summer. The series is made possible through the support of Disney.

Disney’s support will also be used to help SummerStage Kids host a series of Family Days. These weekend programs take place in the late afternoon and feature music, dance, circus performances and other interactive activities. Family Days will be held in five locations: Brooklyn Bridge Park in Brooklyn, Rumsey Playfield in Manhattan's Central Park, St. Mary’s Park in the Bronx, Queensbridge Park in Queens and Marcus Garvey Park in Manhattan. Families are invited to come early to enjoy a full afternoon of family entertainment, and to stay for an evening concert and film or dance performance.
