Lutheran Medical Center is getting help from folks like Brian Broccoli, Colby Carrot and Erica Eggplant in its efforts to teach kids about nutrition.

The Sunset Park hospital is teaming up with Super Sprowtz, an educational program aimed at getting kids to eat better, on a new patient engagement project.

The program, which is aimed at educating Lutheran’s pediatric population and their families about healthy eating and healthy living, will be hosted at Lutheran Medical Center’s Emergency Department pediatric waiting area and the Lutheran HealthCare Sunset Park Family Health Center for Women and Children.

The kickoff event, featuring the super hero characters Brian Broccoli, Colby Carrot, Erica Eggplant, will take place on Thursday, Dec. 19, at Lutheran HealthCare Sunset Park Family Health Center for Women and Children, at 5610 Second Ave., at 3:30 p.m.

The launch event will include a short speaking program featuring representatives from Lutheran HealthCare (the entity that runs the hospital and health clinics around Brooklyn) and Super Sprowtz. Following the speaking program, the audience, which will also include students from PS 503/506 (Third Avenue and 60th Street), will be treated to a special performance by the Super Sprowtz.

Under the new program, funded by a corporate sponsor, Riva Precision Manufacturing, children in waiting rooms will get to use a fun, age-appropriate curriculum that features the use of books and puppets that tell the story of vegetable superheroes that include Brian, Colby and Erica.

Super Sprowtz has programs in many schools and has also been featured at the White House. Lutheran is the first health care organization to participate.
