In light of the recent wave of the “monitization” of public assets across New York City, on Sunday, Nov. 3, a symposium called “The Selling of Public Assets” will be held from 2 – 4 p.m. in the Chapel at First Unitarian Church, 116 Pierrepont St., Brooklyn Heights.

Citizens Defending Libraries, in concert with Weaving the Fabric of Diversity Committee, will be hosting the symposium to bring to light the “sell off of libraries, schools, hospitals, parks and public housing playgrounds.”

Since February, Citizens Defending Defending Libraries (CDL) has been working to prevent the city from selling these assets without public debate. These publicly-owned spaces will be replaced with such things as luxury condominiums, hotels and office buildings.

According to CDL, “At Sunday’s meeting, we want to break down the walls of isolation amongst people and groups that are affected, identify common problems and concerns, make connections, and foster mutual support.”
