Thompson gets nod from Brooklyn Democrats

They also endorse James, Hynes, Adams, Stringer

The executive committee of the Brooklyn Democratic Organization, meeting at the Thomas Jefferson Democratic Club in Canarsie, voted to endorse former City Comptroller William Thompson Jr. for mayor.

The vote was 22 for Thompson, six for current city Comptroller John Liu, two for Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, one for former Councilman Sal Albanese and four abstentions, according to George Arzt, spokesman for Kings County Democratic Chairman Frank Seddio.

There were no votes for either City Council Speaker Christine Quinn or controversial former Brooklyn-Queens Congressman Anthony Weiner. Thompson can be considered a native son, having served as deputy Brooklyn borough president and as a Brooklyn representative on the old Board of Education. He is also the son of retired Brooklyn Supreme Court and Appellate Division Justice William Thompson Sr.

The committee voted unanimously for Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, who is running unopposed, for comptroller. The vote for public advocate was 25 for Brooklyn Councilwoman Letitia James, six for state Sen. Daniel Squadron and one for educator Cathy Guerrero. James’ district stretches from Fort Greene to Crown Heights, while Squadron’s district encompasses both northwest Brooklyn and lower Manhattan.

As was expected, the vote was unanimous to endorse state Sen. Eric Adams, the only major candidate in the race and a former police captain, for Brooklyn borough president.

For district attorney, 31 leaders voted to endorse current District Attorney Charles J. Hynes, while two voted to endorse former prosecutor Kenneth. Thompson. There were no votes for Abe George, another challenger, according to Arzt.
