The trial of accused Williamsburg rapist Nechemya Weberman began Monday, reports the Failed Messiah blog.

Weberman allegedly raped and sexually abused a young Hasidic girl for years.  While more than 1,000 Weberman supporters attended a fundraiser for him and “demonized” the alleged victim, on Monday advocates and friends outnumbered haters in court.

Since coming forward last year, the woman, now 18, and her husband have allegedly been the target of a massive intimidation effort, reports the New York Daily News.

One man allegedly offered them $500,000 to flee to Israel. Three other men ripped the husband’s kosher certificate from his restaurant, causing him to close the business. Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes filed witness intimidation indictments against the men, the News reports.
