BROOKLYN (AP) — New York City police say they have arrested the mother of two young girls who were abandoned on a street in Brooklyn.

Police say the children, ages 3 and 5, were left alone Sunday around 2:45 p.m.

The mother, Dalisha Adams, was arrested on a charge of endangerment late Sunday evening after she surrendered at a police station. It’s not clear if she has a lawyer.

Police say the girls had no identification on them. They were bundled up for the weather and were clutching several clean diapers. The girls knew their mother's first name but could not tell them where they lived.

Police say a good Samaritan stayed with the girls until police arrived.

They were taken to Brookdale University Hospital to be evaluated.
