UPDATE: SUNY denies LICH action is imminent

Brooklyn Daily Eagle

The State University of New York is denying that any "formal action" on a Long Island College Hospital real-estate deal will take place this week.

In a one-sentence email to Brooklyn Eagle reporter Mary Frost, SUNY director of communications David Doyle appeared to discount the Eagle's report at midday Sunday that "the SUNY board of trustees is set to vote on Monday or Tuesday on a revised proposal to sell Long Island College Hospital (LICH), in Cobble Hill to Fortis Property Group."

The Eagle attributed its story to "insiders" and reported that SUNY declined to comment.

After the Eagle story was published online, Doyle said:

"The board will not be taking any formal action related to the disposition of the facility."

Jim Walden of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcherattorney for LICH advocates, told the Eagle, "We are grateful for SUNY's decision to defer a vote on the NYU-Langone decision."

Updated with a comment by the attorney for LICH advocated.
