Volunteers Spend Spring Break Cleaning Up Shore Road Park

BAY RIDGE — During the weeks of March 12 and March 19, Cornerstone Church at Bay Ridge hosted a total of 65 volunteers from Alabama, Kentucky and Georgia for some spring cleaning in Shore Road Park.

The volunteers were college students who were on spring break and came to the city as part of an event called “Passport New York,” which sought to connect students with churches throughout the Metro NYC area. The student volunteers also spent time picking up trash along Third and Fifth Avenues, where they distributed fliers on behalf of Cornerstone Church.Volunteers sweep up leaves in Shore Road Park. Last year, Cornerstone mobilized more than 350 volunteers from churches around the nation to serve in the Bay Ridge area and plans are already being made to host a few hundred this year as well. As a member of the Shore Road Parks Conservancy and a resident of Bay Ridge, Pastor Nathan Tubbs said he is committed to seeing volunteers serve in revitalizing and maintaining Shore Road Park.

Cornerstone Church gathers for worship on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. at the Gregory Hotel, 8315 Fourth Ave. For more information about the church, visit To find out more about the Shore Road Parks Conservancy, visit
