This weekend: Charlie Brown, Holiday Marketplace, hot chocolate at Brooklyn Lyceum

"A Charlie Brown Christmas" will be playing at the Holiday Marketplace at the Brooklyn Lyceum this weekend.

The place to be for holiday cheer this weekend, December 15 and 16, is the Holiday Marketplace at the Brooklyn Lyceum.

Besides 50 craft vendors, Santa Clause and Peruvian hot chocolate, the Marketplace will be the venue for Pig Brooch Theatre’s fifth annual production of “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”

The Charlie Brown Christmas show has become “a local holiday tradition for young and old alike,” Arthur Rolin told the Brooklyn Eagle.  (Rollin is listed in the show’s credits as “Dancing Shoulder Guy.”)

“The majority of our cast and musical performers are local to Brooklyn and we try hard to work with literally zero budget to get the show together every year.  As you can imagine, wrangling about 18 people to perform for free every year is a bit of a challenge, but we get the job done.

Rollin said that ticket sales go to cover use of the Lyceum space and the remainder is donated the Children's Aid Society.  “Not only are we able to bring some smiles to the faces of grown-up children who remember the cartoon from their childhood but we also give their kids a chance to experience the good-natured joy and altruism that Charles Schultz expressed in this holiday favorite.”

A live jazz trio performing all of Vince Guaraldi’s original favorites will accompany the performances, at 1, 4 and 7 p.m. both days.

The Brooklyn Lyceum calls its Holiday Marketplace a “hallmark last minute gift-getting celebration of crafted goods and fun for all.”   Admission to the Marketplace is free; it runs from 11 a.m. -7 p.m. Admission to the show is $10. (You might want to grab tickets in advance. )

The Lycum is located at 227 4th Avenue in Brooklyn. Take the R train to Union Street, corner of President Street. More at lyceummarkets.com and brooklynlyceum.com
