A 19-year-old remote-controlled helicopter enthusiast was killed in a Brooklyn park on Thursday when the helicopter he was flying struck him in the head, the Wall Street Journal reports.
The tragedy occurred around 3:30 p.m. at Calvert Vaux Park in Gravesend, Brooklyn.
Roman Pirozek, a Queens resident, was flying the helicopter when it struck him, scalping his head. He died at the scene. Pirozek was vice president of the Seaview Rotary Wings, a model helicopter flying club. His father was with him when the accident occurred.
The field at Calvert Vaux Park is sanctioned by the city and the Academy of Model Aeronautics as a model aircraft field.
