YWCA of Brooklyn Offers Business Programs for Women

BOERUM HILL — The YWCA of Brooklyn is offering three programs in March for Brooklyn women business owners, entrepreneurs and residents in celebration of Women’s History Month.

The three programs are described as follows:

• Women’s Initiative Business Action Plan Information Sessions, a two-part program offered at 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays, March 8 and 29, offering high-potential, low-income women with the training, funding and ongoing support to start their own businesses and become financially self sufficient.

• Non-Traditional Employment for Women (NEW) Information Session at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 26, preparing interested women for nontraditional careers in the construction, utilities and transportation industries.Through its innovative training programs, NEW produces graduates who successfully compete for skilled blue-collar careers that enable women to achieve economic self-sufficiency.

The above two programs will take place in the community room of the YWCA, 30 Third Ave. in Boerum Hill.

• Screening of new film titled “Miss Representation,” held in conjunction with the NYC Chapter of United Nations Women, at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27. This film was premiered at the 2011 Sundance Festival and explores how the media’s misrepresentations of women have led to the underrepresentation of women in business and government in positions of power and influence.

This program will take place in the Roulette Theater at the YWCA, 30 Third Ave.
