Bay Ridge — At age 20, when Laurie Cahill started competing in Taekwon-do and winning, she decided she needed more of a challenge. So she took up a “full contact” sport — kickboxing. Coached by Cookie Malendez, who she describes as a “pioneer” in the arena of female kickboxing, by the end of her career Cahill came to be internationally ranked in Taekwon-do and the #1 ranked female kickboxer in the Northeast.
