The World Series began Wednesday night in New York with the Yankees vs. the Phillies, and a friendly senatorial feud is on: if the Yankees win the series, New York senators will get a supply of Philly cheesesteaks. If the Phillies win, Pennsylvania senators will get a supply of Junior’s cheesecakes.
Senators Charles E. Schumer (D-NY), Arlen Specter (D-PA), Bob Casey (D-PA), and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) announced that they have bet on the outcome of the series.
“I give Senators Specter and Casey credit for sticking with their team, but I can already taste those delicious Philly cheesesteaks,” Schumer said. “And even though the Phillies won the World Series last year, there’s no comparing the Yankees’ 26 World Series victories to the Phillies’ two. When the dust settles Senator Gillibrand and I will be enjoying our Philly cheesesteaks.”
This is the Yankees first trip to the World Series since 2003. The Phillies won the World Series in 2008. The Yankees and Phillies played the World Series in 1950, and the Yanks swept in four games.
