NYM Once Again ‘Consumer’s Choice’
by Brooklyn Eagle (edit@brooklyneagle.net), published online 11-06-2009

BROOKLYN -- The National Research Corporation (NRC) has announced that New York Methodist Hospital is a 2009-10 Consumer Choice Award winner. This marks the fourth year in a row that the Hospital has received the award for providing the highest quality service in the community (Brooklyn) as determined by consumers.

The award recognizes hospitals with outstanding service and quality — specifically best doctors, best nurses, best overall quality, and best image/reputation — in 250 markets across the U.S. NRC’s Healthcare Market Guide Ticker, the nation’s largest and most comprehensive study of its kind, surveys over 200,000 households in the contiguous 48 states and the District of Columbia.

Winners are determined by consumer perceptions on multiple quality and image ratings collected in the company’s survey. The winning facilities rank highest in their Metropolitan Statistical Areas (in this case, Kings County), as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Mark J. Mundy, president and CEO of New York Methodist, expressed his pride in the hospital’s accomplishment. “We are delighted at this confirmation of what we already believed: New York Methodist’s efforts to provide the very finest patient care and medical services are recognized and appreciated by the Brooklyn community.

“We are so grateful to our dedicated physicians, nurses, allied healthcare workers, support staff, trustees and volunteers. They exemplify the high level of healthcare that we provide at NYM and they truly deserve to be honored with this award.â€

In the years to come, New York Methodist expects to maintain the high standard of care that it has put in place.

New York Methodist Hospital, a voluntary, acute-care teaching facility located in Brooklyn’s Park Slope, houses 651 inpatient beds (including bassinets) and provides care for over 35,000 inpatients each year. An additional 350,000 outpatient visits and services are logged annually.
