ADAM SANDLER was born in Brooklyn on September 9, 1966. A 17-year-old Adam got his start in stand-up comedy one night performing at a Boston bar he frequented. While doing a stand-up stint in Los Angeles he came to the attention of Lorne Michaels, the producer of “Saturday Night Live,” and Adam was soon with the show.
The appearances he made were so popular (i.e. his Opera Man, Canteen Boy) that he became one of the most popular and entertaining members of the cast. He was on SNL for five years.
Adam’s CD “They’re all gonna laugh at you!” was released in September 1993 and was nominated for a Grammy. But that was nothing compared to the success he would have in movies. He first had huge hits with Billy Madison (1995) and Happy Gilmore (1996). His other comedies include The Wedding Singer (1998), Waterboy (1998) Big Daddy (1999), Little Nicky (2000), Anger Management (2003), I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry (2007) and most recently, Funny People (2009), a drama about comedians.
Sandler first took a more serious role as the character Barry Egan in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Punch Drunk Love (2002). He was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance.
In 2007, he played a man who lost his entire family in the 9/11 attacks in the drama Reign Over Me.
Sandler also develops his own films through his production company, Happy Madison.
