A new group, composed primarily of Boerum Hill residents, has been organized to resist the plan to reopen and expand the Brooklyn House of Detention on Atlantic Avenue. This past weekend, a small army of volunteers started a door-to-door canvass of both residents and storeowners to convince them to oppose the expansion plan. Posters with the request to “Stop the Jail� were passed out and have begun to appear in the windows of homes and stores in the area.
